Join us at MCAC this for specialist art classes and 1-day workshops.

As numbers are limited for all workshops advance booking is essential. Many of the adult classes are suitable for Age: 16+. Unless otherwise stated all materials will be provided. Ceramic Techniques (10 weeks)

Wednesdays from 2 October, 7-9 PM, £55

Learn and develop hand building techniques for individual sculptural design projects.

Beginners Printmaking (4 weeks)

Wednesdays from 2 October 7-9 PM, £25

Intaglio Printmaking comes from the Italian family meaning to make an incision below the surface. Exploring drypoint, callograph and salt etching, this course gives the student a chance to study in depth the intaglio form of printmaking.

 

Insect and Botany watercolours (Demonstration)

Saturday 9 November 2:30-4:30 PM FREE

Join award-winning artist Shevaun Doherty at a demonstration on how to paint realistic bees in watercolour. Passionate about conservation,  Shevaun uses her knowledge of plants and pollinators and her botanical art skills to raise awareness about the plight of our bees. Shevaun painted the logo image for the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan and in 2018, designed a set of bee stamps for An Post.

Silversmithing (Daylong Workshop)

Saturday 30 November, 10-4 PM, £45

You will be taught traditional jewellery making techniques such as piercing, soldering, rolling, annealing and polishing, enabling you to design a necklace/earring. Class is led by designer, gold and silversmith Diane Lyness.

Crochet Beginners/Intermediate (Daylong Workshop)

Saturday 19 October, 10-4 PM, £25

This class is suitable for those completely new to crochet as well as those who have crocheted before. If you have never tried it Naomi will show you how to hold the yarn and hook properly to order to get even tension. You will also be offered guidance and worksheets on various stitch techniques and shaping and have a go at some easy projects. Intermediate level participants will be taught how to work in rows, correct work and will be given patterns to follow. We will be using double knit and chunky wool all of which will be provided on the day.

Sewing Machine Basics (daylong workshop)

Saturday 23 November, 10-4 PM, 25

A workshop specifically made for those who are completely new to sewing, or who would like a refresher course on modern machines. You will learn how to thread a machine, wind the bobbin and how to sew basic stitches. We will talk about stitch width, length and tension. Once you have learnt all the basics you will put all your skills into practice and sew a reversible tote bag. Participants should bring along a sewing machine (in good working order) with a spare needle. If you don’t have a sewing machine, inquire at time of booking and one may be available to use.

Candle Making  (Daylong workshop)

Saturday 16 November  1-4 PM - £25

Sharron from Molly & Me Candles will teach you all you need to know about making the perfect Candle and melts! Each person will make a beautiful woodwick candle and a selection of melts to take home. This is a relaxing,creative and informative workshop. 

Life Drawing (Daylong Workshop )

Saturday 2 November, 10-4 PM, £25 per session (Student Discount available)

An opportunity to draw from a life model under the guidance of an experienced tutor, perfect for portfolio building. Suitable for all levels.

Ceramic Nativity

Saturdays 2 & 9 November, 2-4 PM, £15

Get ready for the festive season by creating your own stylised and individual ceramic nativity scene. Recreate the most famous Christmas scene of all in pure white clay and have a family heirloom to cherish for years to come.

Twinkle and Mistletoe  (Festive event)

Wednesday 11 December, 12-2 PM, £5

For all those ladies and gentlemen who like to lunch, join us for a festive lunchtime event. Learn how to make your own nature inspired bath salts and shower steamer – perfect for those winter evenings, whilst you listen to some christmas music…all washed down with a spot of lunch, mince pies and some warming mulled wine.

Throw-a-Pot (4 weeks)

Wednesdays from 8 January 7-9 PM, £25

Learn the method and technique for throwing a pot under the guidance of experienced ceramicist Ciara Campbell then come back and personalise your creations ready for second firing.

Absolute Beginners Drawing (4 weeks)

Saturdays from 18 January, 10:30 – 12:30 PM, £20

The Absolute Beginners guide to drawing. Learn the essential skills in a relaxed atmosphere. No experience necessary.


‘This Place’

‘This Place’ is part of a new creative initiative called ‘Connected’, jointly funded by Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. MCAC are delighted to be working alongside Amanda Coogan (April - June) and Tonya McMullan (September – December) on their residencies connecting with groups and the people in the surrounding area to deliver enjoyable, social and memorable creative experiences within the gallery and community.
