To celebrate 2011 as the Year of Craft, and to coincide with August Craft Month, MCAC with Tina Byrne and Elaine Riordan of Ceramics Ireland curate an exhibition, which aims to represent the best of craft from both the North and South of Ireland.
There can be few exhibitions that have been given a more appropriate title than transFORM. Not only does it suggest the almost alchemical process that intense heat imposes on clay and minerals in the making of ceramics but it also captures the powerful role this exhibition will play in changing the current perception of Irish ceramics.
A panel of three independent jurors - two national and one international selected the show from an open application. The exhibition will provide an opportunity to see a comprehensive representation of contemporary Northern Irish and Irish ceramic practice produced by emerging as well as established makers.
MCAC and Ceramics Ireland want to present and celebrate the breadth of talent that exists in this exhibition and the Year of Craft is an ideal opportunity to represent the best of Northern Irish and Irish ceramics within this high caliber exhibition.
The exhibition opened in Farmleigh Gallery from May to July 2011 in time for the World Crafts Council’s AGM, following its run at Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown it will travel to Limerick in October.
